Torrington A have already built up a good lead in Division 1 of the North Devon Table Tennis League.

They were further helped this week by Chris Thompson and Michael Sussex playing their first games of the season and coming away with maximums against a Holsworthy team yet to get going.

Balls of Fury gained their first positive result, sharing the spoils with Castle Knights. Wim Faassen starred in this game winning all three of his games, but doubles from David Gray and Gerald Luscombe secured the draw.

The top three players in Division 2 all lost their 100% records as, even at this early stage, games are tight.

Hartland Terriers remain unbeaten after winning against a strong Holsworthy B outfit, especially with Bill Tregellas turning out alongside Bob Montague.

Hartland were 4-1 down at one point, but staged a remarkable comeback, winning the last five sets to claim the match.

The youngsters of Torrington B won a close match against Dolphins, Mathew Sussex winning his three against very experienced opposition.

Hopefuls did away with Mad Batters, Ben Morris winning all three.

Littleham’s unbeaten run came to an end against Herons, but it was close. Leading 10-8 in the final game of the last set, they saw their match points and unbeaten start disappear as Mike Hill and Tony Whatley won 12-10.

Division 1: Balls of Fury 5-5 Castle Knights (W Faassen 3); Torrington A 10-0 Holsworthy A (M Sussex, C Thompson, K Taylor 3).
