TORRINGTON A moved back to the top of the North Devon Table Tennis League table with a resounding result over Misfits this week and are now the only unbeaten team in the top flight.

But despite the 9-1 scoreline, 19 of the games were won by only a two point margin. Nymptons started and ended the singles well against the Smugglers, with wins by David Gray and Ian Rice, but unbeaten runs by Riaz Latif and Mathew Thomas in the intervening seven games and an easy doubles win kick started the Smugglers’ season. Bandits sprang a surprise in Division 2 with their second win on the trot, this time over last season’s winners Herons.

Ben Crompton and Jorg Gawrisch each scored two, then won the doubles, backed up by a good point from Paulo Symons.

Hopefuls increased their lead at the top and are the only unbeaten team in Division 2.
