Torrington finished their promotion season with a trophy thanks to a 24-15 victory over North Tawton.

Torrington closed out the season with a 24-15 victory over North Tawton to take the Devon Junior Cup.

Despite falling behind to an early try from Simon Quick, the hosts, who had already earned promotion to Devon One this season, battled back to take what turned out to be a comfortable victory.

Tries from Rob Elliott and Harry Potter alongside a fine performance from George Jones, whose 14 points with the boot proved invaluable, saw the Donnacroft side safely to victory against higher division-opposition.

North Tawton responded with a try from Jack Phare and went over for a late consolation from Ben Sharp.

Head coach Phil Gordon was ‘over the moon’ with Torrington’s performance.

He said: “It finishes the season just the way we wanted it, with promotion and a Devon cup and it sets us up really well for next year.

“There’s not a lot of silverware around for teams in the lower league, so it’s really nice to lift a cup.”

Gordon was also quick to praise his side for their response after conceding an early try.

“It was nerves, but we’ve been training for that kind of situation all along,” he said

“We stayed patient and played through the phases, and we’ve done that all year - I knew we’d come back.”
