TORRINGTON 2nd XV raised their game from last week's defeat by Wessex by beating Merit Table leaders Exeter Saracens 15-5. Torrie opened the scoring with a Steve Butler-Jones penalty, but Exeter came back immediately with a breakaway try. That was how it stayed until after the break. Ten minutes into the second half a little mayhem arose, when the teams changed pitches after the air ambulance was called for an injured Sarries' player. After some great rucking and mauling by the forwards, lock Dave Lee got his first try for Torrie. The game was sealed 15 minutes from the end, when flanker Richard Huxtable crashed over after some great inter-linking of forwards and backs. Butler-Jones converted. Players deserving a mention were front-row Chris Moast, who was unlucky not to get a try, and Torrie's Welsh partnership of Rhys Gabe and Karl Howell in the centre.Torrie travel to Okehampton this Saturday.
