NINE of the world's top 100 ranked women players are set to compete at the AEGON GB Pro-Series which is being held at the Tarka Tennis Centre in Barnstaple from October 4-10.

Twenty-four players representing 13 countries have registered their interests in the event and world rankings ranging from 67 to 239 make this year's line up the strongest field yet in the competition.

Leading the pack is Sweden's Johanna Larsson, who will be hoping to mount a successful defence of her singles and doubles titles last year.

The defending champion will face stiff competition from a talented pool, including the 2009 runner-up and current world number 97 Pauline Parmentier from France.

Anne Keothavong is also hoping to return to Barnstaple in a bid to secure the title for a second time in three years.

The event also welcomes the return of two former Junior Grand Slam Champions. Kristina Mladenovic from France and Ksenia Pervak from Russia. They are among the youngest competitors in the field and won the 2009 Junior French Open and Junior Australian Open .

It all adds up to a $75,000 tournament which is one of the UK's most prestigious international women's events and is this year the biggest ladies' indoor event in the country.

Tickets are available online at www.barnstapleopen. net or by calling the Tarka Tennis Centre, on 01271 377701.
