ONE hundred and twenty of the country's best amateur golfers competed in the West of England Amateur Strokeplay Championship at the Royal North Devon Golf Club at the weekend.Calm weather conditions were reflected in some good scores, with Andrew Cooley of Chobham GC leading the way with a four-under-par return of 284 for the four rounds -71,76,68 and 69.Runner-up was Ryan Newman of Brookmans Park with 75,73,69 and 68 for a 285 total followed by Eddie Pepperell of Drayton Park and Sam Dodds of Coventry, both on 286. * * *DAVE Blanche added to his double victory weekend at Torrington Golf Club by winning the county golfer qualifier. Dave finished first with 39 points on day one and 37 points in the Club Stableford Division 1 on day two. He will now go forward to compete in the county finals at Honiton on July 31. Rob Greenslade and Sue Rielly won the Trevor Reynolds Salver with 45 points.The pair finished just one point ahead of Jeanette and Rex Cudmore.Rob Chappell's hole in one was not enough to win the Veterans 4BBB with his partner Peter Webb. The pair finished with 40 points, three less than winners Mike Rainer and John Walker. Susie Headon's net 66 took first place in the master medal competition as the ladies took centre stage.Susie finished four strokes ahead of runner-up Sophie Wyre.
