TARKA Tennis Centre players have been successfully representing Devon in national competitions.Matthew Morrish and Lucy Gill represented the county in the National U10 County Cup competition held in Bolton.Both the boys and girls teams qualified through their regional groups to the finals, where they competed against seven other counties from around the country.The girls beat Berkshire 4-0 in the final and the boys also reached their final before losing out to Berkshire 3-1 in a tight match.Matthew and Lucy are two of a stream of talented young players coming through the Tarka Tennis programme, in which they have taken part for the past four years.Fellow members Bradley Dobson and Lewie Parker took part in the Devon boys U12 team qualifier at the weekend.Devon girls beat Cheshire 3-1, Warwickshire 3-1 and Berkshire 4-0. The boys beat South Scotland 3-1 and Middlesex 3-1 before losing to Berkshire 1-3.Lewie Parker and Bradley Dobson were part of the four-strong Devon team in the U12 Boys County Cup held in Taunton.There were five counties taking part, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, the Channel Islands and Cornwall On the first day Devon beat Cornwall 4-0, but then lost 1-3 to Somerset. Next day the Devon youngsters again opened strongly with a 4-0 win over the Channel Islands, but then lost to eventual winners Dorset 1-3.Devon finished second overall, with some good performances from the Barnstaple players, including a great fight-back from Lewie Parker against Somerset before losing a deciding tie-break 6-10.
