Stafford Moors Fisho Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday, July 30-31. There is a practice match on the Friday and fishing on Saturday is on four lakes, with nine in each section. Sundays open match was won by Dave Stockton, fishing on Tanners Lake for a bag of 168 pounds three ounces. Steve Apps fished Woodpecker for second with 143lb 1oz and Murray Stanian was third with 132lb 4. Craig Batti and his son Cayden enjoyed a great day on the Beatties summer house swim, with both father and son seeing plenty of carp. Paul Hutchings who had nine fish out up to a weight 29lb 7oz from Beatties in a 48 hour session using krill and sweetcorn topper. Danny Hayman also did well on Beatties with fish including a 26lb 8oz specimen. Bideford and District Angling Clubs 24 hour sea rover saw a good weigh in with seven respectable fish brought to the scales. First went to Dan Redmore with a specimen bass of 7lb 9 ¾ oz for 108.705 per cent. Nathan Clements was second with a specimen mullet of 4lb 1 ¾ oz or 102.734 per cent. Third went to Antony Smith with another mullet of 3lb 11 ¼ oz. North Devons sea anglers continue to enjoy good sport with smoothound and bass from rock marks along the coast. If you prefer beach fishing, try one of the local surf beaches after dark with a big fish, squid or crab bait out in the surf theres no mystical secret to catching bass that way, you just have to wait for em. Be prepared to suffer a blank or two, but any bass you do catch on the big baits are likely to be a decent size.
