A HOST of international sporting stars will be featuring in two charity events which have been organised in North Devon to raise funds to help forward the careers of aspiring young sportsmen and women from the area.

Sporting celebrities will feature in both a charity football match and a golf day being organised in November by a group of local business and sports people under the banner Supporting Sport Within North Devon.

A match will take place at Barnstaple Football Club on November 17 between an international soccer legends and special guests side and a Devon legends team.

Included in the international line-up will be former QPR, Spurs and England international Andy Sinton, former Everton, Derby, Aston Villa and Scotland international Bruce Rioch, former Aston Villa and England international Gordon Cowans and former Liverpool, Aston Villa and Ireland international Steve Staunton.

The match will kick off at 7.15pm, preceded at 6pm by a Chivenor Youth match.

Next day there will be a celebrity day at Saunton Golf Club featuring Somerset and England cricket international Marcus Trescothick, Bath and England international rugby player Phil De Glanville, European, Commonwealth and Olympic gold medal athlete Iwan Thomas, most capped England footballer Peter Shilton, plus four Ryder Cup golfers and 21 internationals.

The events are being sponsored by the Brend Hotels group.
