l YOUNG sporting stars from across Torridge were honoured at the annual Sporting Stars presentation evening held by the district council at The Elizabethan, Westward Ho! The evening came at the end of a series of sports programmes organised by the council and run throughout school holidays for three to 16-year-olds.Awards recognised the achievements of children participating in the activities and thanked sports coaches for their work. Coaches worked undercover to identify and nominate participants for their effort and attitude in five different categories.From more than 70 nominations a team of judges picked 14 winners, who received their awards from guest speaker Philip Watson, who has represented Great Britain in surf kayaking, and from Cllr James Morrish, leader of Torridge District Council.Award winners were: Drive and determination - Rhianna Williams and Louise Way, both trampolining. All Rounders - Victoria Buckland trampolining; Kobe Bryant, football; and Alistair Prades, trampolining and badminton. Newcomers - Charlie White, tennis; Bethany Milburn, squash; Louise Wilson, badminton. Effort and enthusiasm - Alfie Leitch, tennis; Daniel Williams, trampolining; Oliver Haste, football. Gifted and talented - Millie Taylor-Richards, trampolining; Robert Hill, squash; Lauren Ward, trampolining.
