South Molton must wait another couple of weeks to try and seal the Devon One title after losing 25-15 away to promotion rivals Topsham.
Topsham have overtaken South Molton at the top of the standings, but they have now completed their fixtures. They now need their neighbours Exeter Saracens to do them a favour on March 24 and beat Molton.
South Molton could have sealed the title had they won, but failed to hit top form. Topsham did not get the bonus point, which means South Molton just need any kind of a victory in their final match to seal automatic promotion.
The first 40 minutes were even at Bonfire Field, with the teams going in level at 10-10 after Topsham scored with the last play of the half.
Tom Clarke claimed South Molton’s try in the first half, with Callum Stone kicking a conversion and a penalty.
But Topsham took control after the break and out-scored South Molton two tries to one.
South Molton’s second half score came from Jeremy Darley.
Torrington’s relegation worries deepened in the Cornwall and Devon Division when they lost 84-3 to visiting Saltash.
Tom Gooch kicked a lone penalty for Torrie, who are one off the bottom of the table.
Torrie have no game this Saturday.
