TORRINGTON U16s went down 17-5 to South Molton in their opening game off the season.

It was scoreless for the first 25 minutes with the Torrie defence standing up well to pressure from South Molton.

With half time just around the corner, Ashley Deakin ran straight at South Molton and without stopping once, side stepped through the entire front line and powered on to score his fist try for the club.

Torrie had a near miss just before the break when Reece Morgan kicked ahead and Donald Gill and inside centre Shane Roach got up to the South Molton line but not over it.

A three-try burst in the 15 minutes after the interval put South Molton ahead.

Great plays from Harry Stark, Callum Burton and new comer Brandon Ovey kept Torrie in the game.

Burton with great support from prop Sam Freemantle and flanker Tim Parkinson went for the line only to be denied. Deakin won man of the match and Ovey was presented with a club tie for an outstanding debut.
