BIDEFORD Nomads slipped to their first home defeat of the season after a cracking end-to-end battle with local rivals South Molton.

The visitors took an early lead through the boot of Keiran Jerrett and touched down before half time courtesy of a Roger Pincombe try.

Jerrett added the two points to lead 10-0 at the break. Minutes in to the second half Molton pulled further ahead with another Jerrett penalty.

Only then did Nomads find some urgency in their play. Driven forward by the lively Jason Turner, Nomads started to threaten the try line.

The reward came with wing Lee Faux crossing in the corner after hard work by the pack. Fly-half Shaun Woodhead then added the points with a sweet conversion from the touchline, capping a fine, all-round display that earned him the hosts’ Man of the Match award.

Molton had Zak Stoneman to thank for a try saving tackle as Nomads threw everything at them in the final quarter.

Mike Bissett made his debut for the Nomads with Matt Jones giving a lively performance in the back row.

Centre Toby Richards and full-back Mark North were the other backs to shine for the hosts, who will be looking forward to a bounce-back win when they entertain Torrington in two weeks’ time.
