NORTH Devon's Overton twins - Craig and Jamie - have been invited to join the Somerset Academy.

The Overtons, who are only 16, have been regulars in the North Devon 1st XI for the past two seasons.

Craig made his Minor Counties debut for Devon in the game against Wales at Abergavenny this season. Jamie joined Craig in the squad against Herefordshire, but ended up as 12th-man.

The twins have been assessed by academy director Jason Kerr and Somerset cricket director Brian Rose for a place.

Mark Overton, the twins'' dad, said: "The boys will have two months off cricket when the season ends, then start at the academy in November.

"They will be eligible for up to 20 hours coaching a week, which can only be good for their game.

"They will still be able to play for North Devon and Devon in the Minor Counties if needed. Somerset will have them for 2nd XI games when the school holidays start."

The twins both attend West Buckland School.

Mike Hedden, the twins' 1st XI captain at North Devon, added: "Lots of people at the club have helped Craig and Jamie develop into the players they are becoming and this is reward for their hard work.
