THERE was disappointment for Bideford Rifle Club with the narrowest of defeats in the quarter-finals of the Kynoch Shield competition.Bideford put up the second highest score of the round with 597 - but were matched by opponents Fonthill. Two sets of graduated gauges had to be used before they could be separated and Fonthill were finally given the decision!Eight wins and a draw in their last 13 matches have kept Bideford teams at the top of their respective North Devon League divisions. The Bideford A team has a commanding lead in Division 1 while the B team is equal top in Division 2 and the C team leads Division 3.John Hutchings is two points clear in the overall championship table with an impressive average of 98.75 while Ann Travis leads the women's table and is second in the veterans' championship and Pete Thomson is third in the veterans.Things are also looking good for the club in the National Short Range League with the A and B teams both winning their last two rounds and the B team currently heading its division. But recent results have not been so good in the Devon Winter League with only the B team winning. The A team lost by three points and the C team suffered an important defeat in their Division 6 top-of-the-table clash with Fonthill B, the only team above them.North Devon League: Round 7- Bideford A 393 (Pete Thomson 100), Bogey 391.9; Bideford B 379, Tiverton B 379; Bideford C 361, Pinhoe D 368.
