YOUNG Louis Hughes of Kingsley School in Bideford returned from the Gloucestershire County Open judo championships with a silver medal after winning three of her four bouts.

Team-mate Finlay Mathers just missed out on bronze, while Nick Bone showed great promise in his first-ever judo event.

Kingsley’s Year 6 students are still relatively new to judo events and their coach Simon Ward used the event to test out how well their training has been coming along.

He said: “I’m really proud of all three boys.Competition fighting is very different from club events and this was a great learning experience.”

Kingsley Judo Club is open to the Bideford community as well as pupils. Anyone who would like a free session should contact the school on (01237) 426200
