The eagerly-anticipated Bideford Open Fishing Festival returns this August bank holiday. The sea fishing event runs from 8pm on Friday, August 28, to the following Sunday evening and is a mouthwatering prospect for many anglers, with fishing limits from the upper Severn Bridge right around to Hengistbury Head in Dorset. There is a guaranteed prize fund of £500, as well as separate junior prizes. Entry for the whole weekend is £20 or people can choose to fish individual days at £10 a time. Juniors are £2 a day. Separate species pools will also be running. It is a great challenge if an angler is prepared to devote themselves to a weekend of fishing, as it means tempting marks further afield can be targeted or indeed they may feel more confident on waters closer to home. It gives a huge scope of coastal marks to try and every type of sea fishing imaginable is on the table. There are weigh-ins on the Saturday at 7.30pm and the Sunday at 8.30pm. Competitors can sign in at the Bideford clubhouse in Honestone Street from 6.30-7.30pm on the Friday evening. Alternatively, send entries by post to: Bideford & District Angling Club, Honestone Street, Bideford, EX39 3JJ. Or email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Kris on 07427 493701. Elsewhere, at Stafford Moor, silvers king Bruce Hunt turned his hand to carp catching with sterling results, landing 161lb 14 ounces to take the Wednesday open match. Meanwhile, Mike Walford caught a 25lb 2 oz carp from Lodge Lake on the dam wall.* Dont forget to send your catch reports to me at the email address above.
