WITH Wimbledon in full swing, more than 200 North Devon children took part in a schools' tennis tournament at Tarka Tennis Centre in Barnstaple.

Winners of the primary schools' competition came from Goodleigh and Orchard Vale. The secondary schools' winners were from Park, Pilton and Bideford College.

This was the fourth year of the schools' event at Tarka, which encourages regular involvement in tennis and the chance to compete with other schools. The event was funded through PEDPASS & Tarka Tennis Centre. Thousands of schoolchildren have had a go at tennis through Tarka's schools programme and many now play tennis on a regular basis. From this programme North Devon now has county and national level tennis players. While Wimbledon is on there is free tennis at Tarka on Sundays from 12pm, with an invitation to have a go.
