SATURDAY'S round of league fixtures in the South West divisions were virtually wiped out due to frost-bound pitches.Barnstaple's South West One game away to Cleve was postponed. The replay is due this Saturday.Bideford were due to entertain Penryn in the Cornwall & Devon Division. They will try again this Saturday.Torrington's match with Teignmouth, and South Molton's appointment with Topsham were both called off. Torrie will try again this Saturday. Molton have a previously postponed game against Wessex to play.Setback for CombeILFRACOMBE suffered a setback to their Devon Two promotion prospects when they lost 22-5 at Devonport.Only three points separated the sides at the break - Alex Buckley landing a penalty for the home side.Ilfracombe were 22-0 down when wing Sam St Barbe scored a consolation try.Ilfracombe are due to visit Barnstaple this Saturday for a friendly against the Development XV.Tough ties for youngstersBARNSTAPLE U12s played two tough games at Taunton on Sunday.In the first game they beat Taunton 21-0. Try scorers were Robbie Hume, Bradley Campbell and Sam Roberts, Conversions were kicked by Hume and Isaac Hydleman.In the second game against, a strong Topsham side, Barum fought bravely to keep the score to 5-5. Barum lost four players through injuries and replacements, Niall Deasy, Sam Web, Andy Black and Charlie May all played with real guts to keep the Topsham team out. May was particularly brave tackling boys larger than him. Barnstaple U11s visited Taunton for their first game since November. The first half was evenly matched with some fantastic rugby played by both teams to keep the scores level at 7-7. Barum's strength across the whole pitch showed through in the second half with everyone on excellent form. Five second-half tries earned a deserved 38-7 win.The Barnstaple scorers were Cameron Eckford, Joe Bond, Jack Cloke, Jon Engelking, Joe Hastie and Rob Squires. Engelking kicked the conversions.The U10s took two teams to Taunton RFC and played their best rugby of the season so far.Barum displayed some fantastic passing and running skills, which drew praise from the Taunton coaches. Try scorers were Rafe Yewdall, Joel Anderson, Blake Simpson, Nick Loat, Oscar Adams, Jono Slee, Otis Llewelyn and Billy Rose.Barnstaple U9s played two close games of rugby against Taunton.Barnstaple got off to a slow start but improved to play the better rugby overall. Barnstaple drew one game 15-15, but lost the other 15-5. The try scorer was Charlie Hannan (4).
