THE two inaugural coast-to-coast charity cycle rides, organised by Bideford Bridge Rotary Club and supported by Rotary clubs across Devon, have been hailed a big success.Riders had the choice of a marathon from Ilfracombe to Plymouth or a fun 10km ride on the Tarka Trail. Two teams really entered into the spirit of the fun ride -the Bionic Babes in fancy undress turned heads all the way from Bideford to Braunton and the Three Kings had a regal ride from Barnstaple to Petrockstow and back. One of the event's main sponsors, Parkwood Leisure, had a team of eight who rode to Meeth and back. While it is still too early to announce the total sponsorship raised, Ivybridge Rotary Club team alone raised more than £1,000 by riding the whole route in 12.5hours.The more serious "sportive" riders saw the fastest rider complete the full course in just 5hours 33 minutes, while North Devon's Nick Percival left Ilfracombe an hour late, stopped off in Bideford to do the 10km run and then continued on to Plymouth.
