BRAUNTON'S match against Budleigh failed to go the distance as rain stopped play with the outcome in the balance.

Ian Taylor hit a top score of 43 not out as the anchorman in Budleigh's total of 152 for nine.

Lloyd White was next best on 31 while Greg Marks chipped in with 23 at the end.

Budleigh were glad of Marks' contribution as they had slumped from 60 for two to 89 for seven under pressure from Harry Booker (4-39).

Braunton nosedived to 36 for five as Ian Bishop (2-37) and Newman (2-27) ripped into them.

A break for rain allowed Braunton breathing space and when they came out it was a different story.

Seventh-wicket pair Brady Saunders (20no) and Jason Hayes (34) put on 61 unbroken as the score reached 104 for six before the terminal shower.

Braunton are away to Paignton this Saturday. They are 23 points adrift of safety at the bottom of the table and can forget hopes of staying up if they lose.
