Putt it right!THIS week we will concentrate on short range putting. Many amateurs I see miss short putts because they simply don't hit the ball firmly enough at the hole. With any putt less than four feet in length, if you try to hole the putt 'dead weight' or if you decelerate on the shot, the ball has a good chance of wandering or getting deflected off line. The next time you are on the putting green, try to practice hitting your ball firmly into to the back of the hole. This will take away the need to allow for any break and, as you get more confident, you will hole more putts and you won't be put off by any spike marks or imperfections on the greens.Happy golfing, MIKE WILSON, professional, Royal North Devon Golf Club (01237) 477598.
