James Pugsley, of Bideford AAC, won the race in 34 minutes 57 seconds, despite sweltering conditions. He was followed by fellow Bideford AAC member Keith Shapland, taking second at 36 minutes 22 seconds. Third place was taken by Benjamin Whalley, of Ilfracombe Running Club, in 37 minutes on the dot. Bideford AAC also had the fastest female, with Jo Bedler crossing the finish line in 42 minutes 59 seconds. This was the second Barnstaple 10k organised by the charity, with temperatures much higher than the previous year. Jacky Massos, trustee of Care for Kids, said she was delighted by how many people turned out to run the course. We had 360 people enter and around 330 people run on the day; it was full, she said. I think it went quite swimmingly, we had really good competitors and a new course record. Although it was hot I think we had a few minor incidents with people overheating but nothing much. So far weve raised around £6,000 but were hoping this will creep up as more sponsorship comes in.
