North Devon angling scene, with Tony Gussin

With the weather improving the catches are starting to roll in at Stafford Moor - and one angler has joined the 250lb club.

Sunday's match saw Phil Hardwick take first by bagging a huge weight of 255lb 6oz from peg 17 on Woodpecker Lake. Second went to Martin Heard fishing Tanners with 124lb 4oz and Mark Layzelle was third with 190lb 4oz.

Recent catches at the Moor included Joshua Vernon and his son Charlie, who fished on Albert Square on Lodge Lake to catch four carp in 24 hours up to 20lb 4oz.

Jack Sutton had three fish from the summerhouse swim on Beattie's Lake fishing up to 26lb 5oz.

Meanwhile, the 'carp busters' spent a day at the Summerhouse Swim on Beattie's Lake and had 17 fish between them up to 21lb 6oz.

Turning to the sea scene, Darren Short had two good specimen bull huss of 10lb 13oz and 10lb 10oz to win the April heat of the North Devon League and book his place in the Champion of Champions competition.

The winner-takes-all contest will be held on the weekend of May 20-21, with the weigh in at Bideford.

Anyone who has taken a first, second or third in the league heats over the season is automatically entered into the competition and there is no entry fee.

If you want to enter a team of four into the new season when it begins in June, all are welcome and you don't need to be in a club. Drop me a line for info or call Damien Babb on 07875 611772.
