NEARLY 100 youngsters from Barnstaple primary schools took part in the first of this year's Kwik Cricket Festivals hosted by Barnstaple and Pilton Cricket Club and sponsored by the North Devon Gazette.Ten teams of 10-year-olds from the Park School feeder area took part in the competition at Raleigh Meadow, with a particularly strong contingent of girl players this year.The competition is designed to give younger children an introduction to the game and to provide them with an opportunity to compete and meet other young players. Orchard Vale School scooped the honours, with Orchard Vale 1 taking the winners trophy and Orchard Vale 4 the runners-up award.Third place went to Newport 1.
