North Devon’s new South African player Quintin Dreyer is hoping a spell at Instow will help him carve out a career.

Quintin, 20, lives in Cape Town and is on the Western Province radar.

Devon has strong links there through its annual squad tour to South Africa.

Those links have fostered an informal exchange, which has seen future internationals such as Vernon Philander and Jean-Paul Duminy spend a summer in Devon working on their game.

Dreyer, an opening bowler and middle-order batsman, comes from the same background as Jason Smith, who made 644 runs for North Devon in 2013.

Quintin’s sights are set on becoming a pro and he said: “This year I wanted to play for a top club, which is why I am at North Devon.”
