NORTH Devon sealed the North Devon Cricket League's 2010 Division 1 title in some style when they defeated Morebath by 10 wickets at Instow.
Chief architect of the victory was Dan Browser with another unbeaten century as the hosts first bowled the Mid Devon side out for 140 and then knocked the runs off without losing a wicket.
Also in the top flight, Sandford won the Mid Devon derby at Bradninch by three wickets. The hosts were bowled out for 169 with debutants Sam Tennant (43) and Dave Squire (31) leading the run scoring. Shaun Fryatt claimed 3-11 and there were a brace of wickets each for Brian Leach and Ryan Glass.
Steve Morrish led the successful run chase with 40 before he became one of three wickets which fell to another Bradninch newcomer Will Squire. Chris Blake and Brian Leach both chipped in with 29.
Another outstanding issue was settled in Division Three.
Non-playing Westleigh were hoping for a North Devon II victory at Filleigh II, which would have seen them escape the drop. But thanks to Mike Prideaux (20no) and John Harrison (14), Filleigh edged a single wicket win in a thrilling contest. Visiting North Devon were bowled out for 101, Craig Overton top scoring with 44 before being out to a sensational boundary catch by Tim Henry. Martin Brice took 3-10 and Jamie Palmer 2-19. Wickets then tumbled in the reply, with young Craig Overton taking 4-22. But Prideaux and Harrison held their nerve and the game was won by the smallest of margins, allowing Filleigh to stay in Division 3, while consigning Westleigh down to Division 4.
Bude rounded off their Division 3 season with a pair of maximum points hauls, although they had only to play once to achieve their weekend double.
After Saturday's scheduled hosts Sandford II conceded the game, Bude entertained champions Weare Giffard next day and became only the third side to defeat them this season.
Mike Hedden (80) led the title winners to 212-7, while Andrew De Rosa took 3-22. Alex Smeeth then cracked a superb 75 for Bude and with an unbeaten 50 from Warren Rumble the home side moved to a four wicket victory. Jay Wittram completed his successful season with another fivefer, finishing with 5-29.
