The visitors were bigger, stronger and faster and only top-class tacking, particularly from Adam Crouch and Barry Elston, kept Combe from going out of sight before half time. Bideford conceded two tries in the opening half but it could have been five or six. Bideford spent more time in the Ilfracombe half after the break, but poor handling let them down. Ilfracombe added two converted tries to lead 24-0 before Sam Olde finally shook off the visitors defence to touch down under the posts.
