Ilfracombe defeated Bideford Quins 29-5 in a Devon Merit Table derby at King George V.

The visitors were bigger, stronger and faster and only top-class tacking, particularly from Adam Crouch and Barry Elston, kept Combe from going out of sight before half time.

Bideford conceded two tries in the opening half but it could have been five or six.

Bideford spent more time in the Ilfracombe half after the break, but poor handling let them down.

Ilfracombe added two converted tries to lead 24-0 before Sam Olde finally shook off the visitors’ defence to touch down under the posts.

The Ilfracombe try scorers were Nigel East, Jay O’Briene, Radford Chugg, Charlie Bennett and Pete Gammon, who also kicked to conversions.

South Molton host Pirates Amateurs this Saturday still looking for their first Cornwall and Devon Division win of the season.

A first day draw against Liskeard-Looe was followed by 40-3 reversal at Penryn last time out.

Torrington, who dropped from the Cornwall and Devon Division into Devon One at the end of last season, lost 41-7 to Exeter Athletic in their league opener.

Ben Sawyer scored the Torrington try and Tom Gooch kicked the conversion.
