Two Shebbear College pupils had a day to remember at England’s Pennyhill Park training base.

Two rugby players from Shebbear College have been put through their paces by England internationals.

Charlie Short and Stuart Williams were both selected for the U15 Natwest Schools Cup Academy Squad in April.

The squad came together last week for a training day at the England rugby team’s official training base at Pennyhill Park.

The training day gave the young players the chance to experience a day in the life of elite players.

The day started with speed testing and drills before games coached by England captain Chris Robshaw, flanker Matt Kvesic and lock Dave Attwood as well as former England international Mark Cueto.

They then took part in a feedback session where members of the England coaching team analysed their games.

Speaking at the NatWest Academy Day, Cueto said: “The level of quality at the NatWest Schools Cup Academy Day was extremely high.

“English rugby is in a good place following the Grand Slam win and the calibre of players on show suggests we have a promising future to look forward to as well.

“Charlie and Stuart performed consistently throughout this NatWest Schools Cup and their contribution to Shebbear College’s season has been rightfully rewarded.”

Short and Williams have been part of a Shebbear College team that has won three consecutive North Devon Sevens titles, as well as a North Devon Schools Championship for 15-a-side rugby.
