North Devon met Torquay in the Servicemaster Devon T20 semi-final on Sunday.

North Devon’s interest in the Servicemaster Devon T20 play-off day ended at the semi-final stage when they lost by eight wickets to Torquay.

North Devon made 102 for four in a game restricted to 12 overs each due to rain.

Opener Dan Bowser unfurled some big hits in his 25-ball knock of 38, which include three fours and four sixes. Ed Yeo was next best on 20.

Pick of the bowlers for Torquay were spinners Matt Beasant – three overs for 18 runs – and Matt Petherbridge (3-25).

George Allen (47) and Mitch Pugh (27) took Torquay to 63 for one on the chase and from then on they were favourites.

Pugh and skipper Justin Yau (10) went in successive overs, but Allen was unmovable and saw it through with Joe Thompson (10no) with an over to spare.

Losing captain Barney Huxtable said his side were 15 runs short of what they needed.

“We didn’t bat as well as we could have in the last couple of overs – and we didn’t play the spinners well,” said Huxtable.

Torquay chased 144 to win in the final against Bradninch, getting over the line with four wickets and three balls in hand.
