NORTH Devon basketball team continued their unbeaten record this season with victories over Newton Abbot and Exeter Police. The home match with Newton Abbot was close at first, with the teams neck and neck after the first two quarters. But top scorer Gareth Ellis stepped up with a massive 25 points to give North Devon control of the game and Ron Wrey was dominant in defence to gain the "most valuable player" award.Exeter Police were also unbeaten and the physically bigger side gave North Devon a stern test. But North Devon refused to be intimidated and used their athleticism to overcome their hosts in the opening quarter by 20 pointsGareth Ellis and Adam Gregory were too quick for the police point guards, forcing turn- over after turn-over and converting passes to Dave Sloman for easy fast break points. Rob Wrey was a force under the basket with his rebounding, while Carl Blair stole the show and was given "most valuable player" tag in the final quarter with a jaw-dropping basket from an unbelievable Adam Gregory pass. This away victory made it six wins out of six for North Devon, taking them to the top of the league for the first time this season.
