North Devon Cricket League gets underway

The North Devon Cricket League, this year sponsored by saw a new season launched at Braunton where the home side defeated Barnstaple and Pilton by six wickets.

Batting first Barum were restricted to 152-9 with only opener Andrew Barton (58), Danny Donovan (20), Tom Popham (17) and James Thomas (15) making any sort of impression.

Harry Booker claimed 5-17 and Andrew Paddison bagged a brace. The run chase was completed in just 23 overs with Paddison closing unbeaten on 52 and Tom Mitcham striking 46. Jack Popham (2-37) was the most successful Barum bowler.

Result: Barnstaple & Pilton 152-9 (A Barton 58, D Donovan 20; H Booker 5-17), Braunton 156-4 (A Paddison 52no, T Mitcham 46; J Popham 2-37). Braunton (20pts) bt Barnstaple & Pilton (4) by 6 wickets.
