North Devon archers had a tremendous day when they travelled with other South West archers to the annual South West Crown field shoot, near Liskeard in Cornwall.

The North Devon area was represented by members of the newly-formed Audris-Hart Field Archers club.

In an excellent shoot consisting of 30 x 3D targets the North Devon contingent shot in the individual class and overall handicap competition and also joined forces with members of the Armsofold Archers from Highampton for the team event.

In the individual classes, Audris-Hart archer Jason Quinn won his first field archery gold in the men’s barebow competition, while Helen Cohen-Quinn took bronze in the ladies barebow section.

Helen came 23rd out of 48 in the overall handicap event in which Jason was placed 35th and Pete Webbe of Audris-Hart came 38th.

In the team event Jason, Helen and Pete teamed up with Anita Gibson, Amber Clark and Chris Haywood of the Highampton club to form the Arms of Audris team and put in a great performance as a team.

Shooting without sights, they competed against archers with the advantage of sighted equipment.

They secured fifth place with a combined score of 3,486, beating their nearest rivals by 330 points and missing out on fourth spot by just 37 points to a team which was comprised entirely of crossbows and compound bows with sights, making it a great result for the traditional bow classes.
