NORTH Devon Skittles Charitable Trust held the finals of its annual knockout competition at the Borough Arms in Barnstaple.

The three team play-off resulted in victory for the Nippits from the Barnstaple Ex -Services Club with a score of 387, sealing the victory with a tremendous fifth rub of 85, including a 26 spare from Andrew Kiff.

Jill Thorne top-scored for the winners with 80 and Mark Kiff floored 75.

Captain Martin Kiff received the Huxtable Shield from the trust president Andrew Gibson.

Runners-up Barum Bowlers from Barnstaple Conservative Club scored 365 to win the Portmore Shield, which was presented to their captain Pam Elliott. Their top scorer was Richard Chapple with 68.

Third place went to Shaz's Super Six from the Ring-o-Bells in Prixford, who scored 358, with top scorer Neil Conibear contributing 70.

Winners and runners-up received individual cups donated by Trophyman of Barnstaple.

The trust's annual auction and draw night, plus a skittles competition, is being held this Friday at Barnstaple Football Club, starting at 7pm.

Money raised by the skittles trust goes towards equipment at the North Devon District Hospital and will this year go towards the purchase of portable patient monitoring equipment for use throughout the hospital.
