NORTH Devon looks like having a rugby league team competing in the Co-op South West Conference next summer.

An informal meeting held in the Corner House pub in Barnstaple attracted enough people to make forming a club viable.

Organiser Keith Fillingham was pleased with the response to the initial meeting and is hopeful an even bigger gathering will attend the next one.

"To get 15 like-minded rugby league people together in a Barnstaple pub on a filthy Thursday night in November was a pipe dream six months ago, but now I can see the basis for a strong club in North Devon," said Fillingham."

A formation meeting is planned for the Corner House a week tomorrow (December 3) at 7.30pm. Officers will be elected, a name chosen and colours selected.

"Anyone with an interest in rugby league is welcome to come along and hear what our future plans are and, if they want to take an active part in the club, stand for a position on the committee," added Fillingham.

Next Thursday's meeting will formally constitute the club so it can affiliate with the Rugby Football League and make and application for the conference, along with electing officers and deciding on the club name, colours and logo.
