DUE to tides and other events, this year’s Bideford Regatta will be taking place much earlier than its usual September date.
Boats will be taking to the water this Saturday, July 14.
One of Bideford’s oldest sporting events, the regatta features crews from all over the South West competing against each other in singles, doubles, quads, fours and eights rowing races over a 1,000 metre course between the town’s two bridges.
Part of the West of England Amateur Rowing Association championship programme, the regatta will provide racing throughout the afternoon, with all ages and abilities taking part.
The other traditional activities which take place during Bideford Regatta Week, including Bideford Carnival and the Massed Pipes and Drums, will still take place in September - when Bideford will be hosting the South Coast Championship Regatta on Saturday, September 8.
