The North Devon Netball Satellite Academy is now under way and this year has 20 players, selected from North Devon youngsters in school Years 7-9.

The academy aims to provide training based on the Netball Excel Pathway, which is the England Netball process for developing athletes with the attributes to attain excellence. This process is based on principles of long term athlete development rather than competition.

The Satellite Academy is the first entrance into the Pathway and the focus is on individual development. Athletes learn how to train and develop the skills of netball, basic technical and tactical skills, hydration and nutrition, fitness preparation and recovery, lifestyle management and goal setting.

The programme comprises of 10 fortnightly sessions on Thursdays at the Park School sports hall and culminates in a county tournament in March, when all three of the county’s satellite areas play each other.

Academy members are: Stefania Barbeary, Carmen Clements, Isobel Gibbs, Lucy Gill, Abbie Heard, Nell Hemansbrook, Katie Hevingham, Emily Hookway, Keziah Hoskin, Lauren Huggins, Elizabeth Keech, Molly Maskell, Nicola McMillan, Joanna Nancekivell, Ellen Napier, Lizzie Nicholas, Emily Risden, Helena Sarney, Isabel Wakefield and Millie White.
