Two competitors will be heading to Abu Dhabi for the Special Olympics World Games next year

Two North Devonians have been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Special Olympics Games.

North Devon Special Olympics’ Fiona Lane and Daniel Weston will travel to Abu Dhabi for the world games in March 2019.

Fiona will represent Great Britain in tennis, while Daniel will as a cyclist.

The North Devon group have begun crowdfunding to help the pair get the to the games, which cost £2,500 for each of them before extra training camps and kit.

North Devon Special Olympics’ Val Hannover said: “This is a marvellous achievement not only for them, but also the athletes and coaches who train and compete at various events throughout the year, to have friends selected for this most prestigious event.

“This will mean a year of travelling the country training, and a big commitment from coaches, family and friends.”
