South Molton gave Cornwall and Devon leaders Plymstock Albion Oaks a run for their money before dipping out 21-17 at Unicorn Park.

Oaks, who led 14-3 at the break, held off a late challenge by South Molton to make it five wins in a row.

South Molton’s only points in the first half came from a Callum Stone penalty.

Plymstock scored an interception try after the interval to edge further ahead. Then the hosts came to life.

Dan Smith went over for a converted try to close the gap, before Reece Eury crossed three minutes from time to put his side within one score.

South Molton finished the game attacking Oaks’ line but they were unable to find a late winning try.

Molton are at home to Withycombe this Saturday.

Torrington got off the mark in Devon One in fine fashion with a 76-0 demolition of New Cross at Donnacroft.

It finally clicked for Torrie as they ran in 12 tries in the shutout win to get their first points of the season at the third time of asking.

Scrum-half Billy Cockwill scored a hat-trick and there were two tries for Charlie Banfield.

Scores came from all over the park with Richard Mann, Nic Summers, Matt Coles, Ryan Dart, Gareth Woolway , Ollie Webb and Tom Gooch all touching down.

Gooch added 14 in extras and Sam Britton converted one.

Next up for Torrie is a trip to North Tawton on Saturday.
