A 3-1 win against Duchy in GoCrea8 Conference South ended an unwelcome losing streak for North Devon

North Devon put in their best performance of the season on Saturday with a win over Duchy in GoCrea8 Conference South.

The hosts were boosted by a large home crowd, and after suffering a narrow defeat to their Cornish rivals earlier in the season, knew they were in with a chance of getting something.

Goalkeeper Sam Wormington was forced to clear a couple of penalty corners in the first half on the way to a man of the match performance, and from there North Devon were able to go on and take the lead.

Captain Phil Brand’s pass was played into the circle for Ben Cox to deflect goalwards, with Joe Taylor-Richards following up the goalkeeper’s save to turn the ball in.

They soon grabbed a second too. Matt Brown won a penalty corner for North Devon after a mazy run, and the resulting play saw Guy Cockroft tee up Ash Thorne to finish.

After weathering some pressure in the second half, North Devon eventually extended their lead in a fine free-flowing move. Cockroft picked the ball up on the halfway line before taking it all the way to the baseline and firing in a fierce cross for Thorne to deflect in.

They found the goal once more, with Cockroft firing in after a one-two with Giles Rowden, but it was ruled out for an illegal strike.

Duchy eventually got one on the board from a penalty corner, but North Devon held firm for victory.

They travel to bottom side Taunton Vale A this Saturday.
