MULLET in the River Taw are now obliging local anglers, including a specimen at the weekend for Tarrant Wotton to scoop first in the monthly Barnstaple Rod 'n' Reelers roving competition.

The 105.9% thin lipped mullet went 1560 grams on the scales - about 3lb seven ounces - followed by another from Steve Luxton at 89.9% for second place.

Third went to Dave Shapland with a bull huss of 3265g (7lb 3) or 72%.

The North Devon League begins again this month, with the first heat of the new season is on the weekend of June 19/20.

There is no need to belong to an angling club - teams can be submitted by anyone, representing groups of friends, pubs, businesses or even nothing at all!

The format is for teams of four, but fewer may take part if they wish and team members can be changed or added as the heats go on.

There are cash prizes for the placed winners in each monthly heat, who are also entered free into the end of season Champion of Champions, which carries cash prizes.
