Bidefords rowing clubs were in action in Falmouth for round five of the West of England Championship season.The competing clubs, which included Bidefords Reds and Blues, raced along Stithians Lake near Redruth. In wet and windy conditions, the Blues took four wins, while the Reds got two of their own. The Blues junior 14 quad crew of Jack Berry, Toby Evans, Charlie Smale and Nell Gierke picked up a win. Evans stepped up the U16s mens squad to fill in, and what was part of another winning crew along with Jasper Beer, Lucas Wilson and Jamie Norton. Norton achieved success on his own in the U16 scull where he finished first. The U18 junior ladies of Kirsty Snow, Charlotte Berry, Shelby May and Shannon Monaghue were also victorious. It was a day of mixed fortunes for the Reds. Their victories came in the mixed senior C coxed fours and the mixed fours. The senior C crew of Adam Bewes, Theon Rogers, Darren Palmer and Andy Cox headed the field to record their fourth victory from five, firmly establishing themselves as category leaders. The mixed four of Jon Lamont, Libbie Willis, Glyn Brown and Jess Giddy, along with cox Adam Curtis, beat two of the Reds other mixed fours to ensure a 1-2-3 for the club. The Reds senior C four of Alex Rowland, Glyn Brown, Karl Rowland and Adam Curtis had to settle for third place in their race, but still cling to the top spot in that category, heading the table with nine points and three ahead of Dart Totnes in second.
