A squad of rowers from the Bideford Reds returned from the British Masters Regatta at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham with two gold medals and a silver.

There was gold in the Masters IM3 E4+ class (average age 55) for Dave Powe, Dave Godfrey, David Bates and cox Keely Mills, who linked up with a veteran from Greenbank Falmouth to win the 1,000 metre race in a time of 3 mins 50.36 secs.

Bates and Godfrey then joined up with Ali Peake and Dave Byrnes to also win the Masters IM3-D4+ (average age 50) event in a time of 3 mins 44.9 secs, despite lying in last place after 250 metres.

A strong middle section saw the North Devon crew edge level with the other five crews before a final push over the last 250 metres saw them edge home to take the gold medal.

Racing in the IM3 single sculls, Dave Byrnes just missed out on another gold, being pipped on the line by a rower from Manchester, and had to settle for a hard earned silver.
