South Molton came from behind to beat Topsham 23-15 and ensure a successful start to life back in Devon One.

Molton were relegated from the Cornwall & Devon Division last term and are looking forward to winning more games this season, having won just two last term.

Simon Murch opened the scoring with a try for the visitors but two tries from Topsham’s Ross Bovingdon and five points from the boot of Seth Roberts put the home side ahead at the break.

The visitors were dominant at the breakdown and it was not undeserved when they pulled themselves level with tries from Dan Smith and Aaron Irving.

The scoreline stayed that way for much of the second half with South Molton rueing a collection of missed kicking opportunities.

Courtney Lucas’s breakaway try finally got the visitors back in front and a penalty from Ben Gatehouse ensured they took victory.

The Men in Black are at home to Totnes this Saturday.
