At their recent annual end of season Presentation Evening, the North Devon tennis community held a raffle in aid of charity.

This year, the chosen charity was 'Special Olympics' - an organisation offering sports and competition to children and adults with a learning disability.

With funds raised from the raffle, plus monies donated in lieu of keepsake trophies, a total of £780 was collected, and this was presented to the local Special Olympics group. They meet every Saturday at Tarka Tennis Centre in Barnstaple, and under the guidance of coaches with helpers, they play badminton, boccia, table tennis and tennis.

Val, the organiser, said this money would assist in meeting the expenses incurred when they travel to take part in competitions. Two of the group have represented GB overseas, competing in the World Special Olympic Games held in Abu Dhabi - Fiona playing tennis, and Daniel a cyclist - an experience of a lifetime for them both.
