Witheridge 2-0 Torquay United

Witheridge stunned Football League Two Torquay United to reach the semi-finals of the Edenvale Turf Ltd St Lukes Challenge Cup.

Withy will be waiting on the winner of Tiverton Town v Barnstaple Town next week after the in-form Peninsula league side knocked out one of the big favourites to lift the trophy, beating them 2-0 on Tuesday night.

The home side went 1-0 up when Kyle Bassett beat the keeper in a one on one and slotted home, and the lead was two before half time thanks to a Jordan Charran free-kick.

It could have been even better for Witheridge, but Steve Ebdy squandered the chance to make it 3-0 from the penalty spot and blazed over the bar.

Torquay then returned the favour, missing a penalty of their own in the second half, and finished the game with 10 men after one of their defenders was sent off.

Although the Gulls travelled to Edge Down Park with a young team, it still represents a big scalp for Withy and proves that they have a chance of going all the way.

Their semi-final tie will be played on or before January 31.
