Six wins in a row have catapulted Barnstaple Town into a strong position in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.

Their latest success came at Hallen on Saturday, where they kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win despite being short of several key defenders.

Any nerves they might have had were settled pretty much immediately when Town were awarded a penalty less than 30 seconds after the start of the match.

Nial Heeney stepped up and cooly converted from the spot to give Barnstaple an early lead.

Hallen were the better side for much of the first half, but struggled to break down Barnstaple's makeshift rearguard.

The three points were wrapped up in the second half when Liam Gregory applied the finishing touch to a fine set piece delivery.

The winning streak means Barry Yeo's team are now just three points off the top of the league, with games in hand on the sides above them.

Town make the long trip to Horndean in Hampshire for their FA Vase tie on Saturday. Get in touch with the club if you want to travel on the team bus.
