Great Torrington School U16 girls are Devon Schools football champions after beating King Edward VI Community College, Totnes, 5-1.

They remain undefeated in all matches throughout their school life.

The girls slowly adapted to the tough conditions at Totnes and had the better of the chances in the first half, despite defending the slope and working against the wind.

Chelsea Petherbridge had three chances to break the deadlock, but was denied by good defending and goalkeeping, before King Edward grabbed a goal against the run of play to go in 1-0 ahead at half-time.

But the Torrington girls flew out of the blocks in the second half, scoring two quick- fire goals, through Jess Fahy and Chelsea Petherbridge to stun their opponents.

Fine link-up play through the midfield allowed Kelly Darnley to poach another goal and from then on Torrington were hardly troubled. Phoebe Baker netted a fourth goal and Annabel Halstead sealed the win with a penalty 10 minutes from time.
