Bideford march on in this season’s FA Cup competition

BIDEFORD completed an early season league and cup double over Tiverton Town with a comprehensive 4-0 FA Cup win on Saturday.

Kevin Squire scored two and Matt Bye and Matt Hockley added singles in the Sports Ground win, the second against their Devon rivals in the space of a week.

Tivvy made significant changes to the side that lost 1-0 in the Evo-Stik Southern League six days previously, but it did little to stem a free-flowing Robins side that grew with confidence as the match progressed.

After a few early scares, Bye opened the scoring with a well-stuck low shot from outside the box five minutes before the break.

And when Hockley curled a free-kick over the defensive wall to double the advantage soon after the break, Bideford never looked back.

The hosts set their sights on the £1,500 prize money and a first round qualifying tie at home to Bridgewater Town on September 17.

Kevin Squire volleyed the third and with Tiverton’s Kevin Hill already given a second yellow for a foul on James Richards, Squire settled the scoring with a glancing header.
