Ilfracombe Town brought their season to a close on Saturday with a well-earned point over Bovey Tracey.

The Bluebirds drew 1-1 with Bovey at Marlborough Park in the South West Peninsula League East Division, two days after the visitors lifted the Devon Premier Cup.

Bovey took the lead in first half when Ollie Aplin got on the end of a ball from Lewis Perring to finish past Elijah Clarke.

Ilfracombe made changes in the second half, with the reshuffle seeing Brodie Montague move up front from centre back. It was Montague who got the equaliser, getting the ball from wide and taking a touch before firing in.

Manager Clem Bennellick said: "It was a good way to finish. We've had a few tough games to end the season, to get two points from the last three games, I'm happy.

"We had a couple of golden opportunities to win it with five minutes to go, but no complaints, it was a good result. I'm really happy with the way the boys have been battling."

The result means Ilfracombe finish eighth in the East Division.

"We're a good young side full of potential and we're looking forward to next season where we can hopefully add a bit of experience and push on," said Bennellick.

"We're happy as a team with how it's gone this season. We finished seventh last year and eighth this year, for some that may seem like a disappointment but I think the standard of the top and middle teams has been a lot higher.

"It feels like we have done better than last year and maybe we were a little bit unlucky to finish behind St Martins on goal difference. The teams above us are really good sides though."
